Jewellery Moments Welcome their New Fashion Blogger

Jewellery Moments are proud to welcome their new fashion blogger, Sophie Butcher, to the team.

With the launch of their new website just a couple of weeks ago Jewellery Moment’s have seen a sharp rise in interest to the site. They are thrilled to have such a large following and Alice (MD) is keen to ensure they are kept well entertained!

“I love clothes! I love to see personal expression through style, to see garments put together that you wouldn’t expect. I also love the idea of creating a beautiful image or photo that doesn’t necessarily have to feature clothes, but is still ‘fashion’.”

Sophie is the perfect candidate for the job; passionate, hardworking and creative she will fit into the company perfectly! When asked how she felt about joining the team she told us “I feel so excited! I wasn’t expecting to get the position, so it was a lovely surprise. I can’t wait to put the skills I’ve learned from my degree, as well as my personal love for writing and fashion, to the test for a real blog and work with a real brand!”. It will be great to have her on board and see her creative writing style in action.

From the young age of 16 Sophie developed a strong interest in the world of fashion and since this time she has pooled over fashion magazines, often making collages to gain inspiration for her own work. She tells us “I love clothes! I love to see personal expression through style, to see garments put together that you wouldn’t expect. I also love the idea of creating a beautiful image or photo that doesn’t necessarily have to feature clothes, but is still ‘fashion’.”

Drawing upon her new role Sophie reflects how the experience will be invaluable for her future career within the fashion industry  ”I’ll get to see how a real brand is developed and grown, and improve my social media and writing skills, which are so important in the industry today.” read more…

New York Fashion Week 2014

Our fantastic guest blogger Rachael Walsh gives us her straight-talking honest opinion in a look-back at New York Fashion Week’s best and well, damn right, awful moments!

Love was in the air this weekend post-Valentine’s day but I was already head over heels for the collections featured in New York Fashion Week.

For me this year’s standout collection belonged to Badgley Mischka. The colours throughout were subtle with the occasional burst  of gold. Now here are two men who appreciate the importance of bling! I particularly liked their decision to accessorize this atypically bland outfit, presumably as some sort of distraction, with everyone’s favourite winter accessory; sunglasses.

Badgley Mischka had a theme throughout of beautifully tailored pieces combined with Cossack hats and fur snoods reminiscent of Russian royalty. Or what I imagine Russian royalty would wear…were they dressed by Badgley Mischka.

This is a look I will definitely be channelling at the end of this year; I need a new Winter fashion idle besides Queen Elsa of Disney’s ‘Frozen’ fame.

On second thoughts, I might try and keep that look going a bit longer.

One designer who really failed to impress for me was Boss whose theme seemed to be androgynous businessman (or woman! But mostly man). Their unflattering jackets hung off the models in a variety of uninspiring colours such as grey and (get this) brown. You’re not going to break the glass ceiling in those colours, ladies! read more…

The Best of London Fashion Week AW14

The second of four in our Fashion Week posts, and next up is fashion on the home front at London Fashion Week.

London is always my favourite of the Fashion Weeks, and not just because it’s so close to home; I think the lineup is the most diverse, the most new and refreshing, and always the mos exciting. Here’s some of the shows that really got my heart racing:

Simone Rocha:

Daughter of the legendary designer John Rocha, award-winning Simone has burst onto the fashion scene since winning the prestigious Newgen award, and now shows in Somerset House, just like the pros. Her collections are incredible for such an emerging talent, and AW14 was no exception; teaming boyish footwear with feminine shapes and textures is something we’ve seen from Simone before, but never in such an elegant way. The striking palette of black, white and scarlet red with hints of metallic together with floaty sheer materials makes for a collection both desirable and wearable. Bravo, Simone.

The usual genius was on display here; structured bell shapes with a mixture of influence from oriental jacquard to gothic lace and mesh, and an autumnal colour palette of blacks and metallics with dashes of pastel thrown in for good measure. Erdem never disappoints, and is one of my all time favourite designers!

Peter Pilotto:

Peter Pilotto is another designer I love, and AW14 may be my most loved collection of theirs yet. There was a huge range of exquisite print on show, from ethnic textiles to a digital sun-bleached mountainscape and geometrical florals. Their signature shape with that oh so modern V across the decolletage as seen in the look on the far right was still a player, but other, more classic silhouettes more reminiscent of the 40′s and 50′s were also on display. With slicked back hair and edgy, pointed shoes as accessories, this is fashion at its most beautiful. Divine. read more…

A Day to Remember

Most brides would describe their wedding day as a once in a lifetime experience, but for Nicola Bell,  her whirlwind wedding in ‘Voodoo County’ really was.

Nicola and Jimmy knew just four days after meeting that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together; a feeling Nicola can only describe as ‘a peculiar experience and mad mix of questioning that you can love someone so truly in such a short space of time.’ Nicola had planned to tour America on a road trip with her two friends in November, when it was decided in the August that Jimmy would come along too. Despite neither of them having ever envisioned getting married, they both knew they wanted to elope whilst in New Orleans.

Nestled deep in Louisiana, New Orleans is perhaps better known as Voodoo County to those who live there.  Louisiana Voodoo or New Orleans Voodoo has its cultural practices, languages and religious beliefs rooted in the worship of spirits and ancestors. As Nicola explains, the religion is known for its spells and ‘gris gris bags’ (a voodoo amulet thought to protect the wearer from evil or to bring good luck), and the couple both felt it would be a perfect reflection of the magic they felt for each other, but also how they met and fell in love almost instantaneously.

It goes without saying that arranging a wedding from the other side of the world has its challenges, but arranging a voodoo ceremony was something completely new to Nicola. Having done lots of research into New Orleans and Voodoo, Nicola quickly discovered there were endless event organisers claiming to be voodoo priestesses and priests offering an array of inauthentic ‘voodoo’ wedding packages designed for tourists. It wasn’t until she found Priestess Miriam of The Voodoo Spiritual Temple, a not-for-profit organisation that Nicola felt her authentic voodoo wedding could go ahead as planned.  As the High Priestess in Louisiana, Miriam is well known internationally and counts Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley as two of her customers. read more…
